Mr Mud rented a car and drove out to the Peak District.

-Did he have any close calls driving on the wong side of the road?

-Did he find anyone to climb the gritstone with?

-Did he show the brits that there CAN be quality routes on that ignored mud pile in that ignored valley?

The questions remain...

Talked to Mr Mud briefly. Calling to the US from his rental cellphone costs 1 pound per minute. Sounds pretty heavy. (I called him back.)

He drove to Sheffield, Peak District last night. Parked, and walked around by foot, and found a room in a pub. Walked back to fetch the car (~1 mile away) and circled around the streets in the car for hours and couldn't find the pub. Finally found a familiar land mark. Parked, again, and found the pub by foot, again. Then walked back to the car, again, and drove the car back to the pub retracing the route. At one point, had to drive in the wrong direction (in order to retrace).

Next morning, couldn't find a restaurant in the town that serves breakfast (hash brown and eggs stuff). Could not get a big cup of coffee anywhere.

Drove to the gritstone areas: Stanage, Burbage(?), and Millstone. Found many boulder problems at Stanage and Burbage. Soloed some (like 5.9's level). The local climbers around were impressed with the soloing, because they were leading the 20' climbs on gear. There are some tall (and famous) routes at Millstone.

Weather has been perfect for climbing.

Um, mudworm, not to be rude, but your title line has a typo. Given what we expect of Mr Mud I think it's spelled "trial," not "trail." I hope we see him again.

My step brother hand an incident in Austrailia where they went from the airport to the surf. When they got back to where the car was, they realized it had been stolen... along with everything. There they were, in thier wetsuits with only thier surf boards in a land far far away.

I wonder if Mr Mud purchased rental car insurance?

I bet ya the Brits are perplexed. "Who is this guy? He doesn't look English, maybe French? Oh, no American! God help us."

He'd better be taking pictures!

Mr Mud visited Chatsworth today. The people there corrected him when he called it a castle.

He was at a gas station when we talked. The gas price at the time was 1 pound per litre; that's like $6.83/US gallon. Now it explains why a kid (could be of any age up to 42) he met in the climbing shop climbs in the gym 4 times a week and has only been outdoors 3 or 4 times.

Just got to Steve's place in Germany. Will be climbing in Lux tonight and Germany tomorrow.

Burbage and Stanage were cool. Most of the climbs were short. I was a bit surprised to see people leading 20 ft routes with a full trad rack. I think a person could do more than half the routes there with a pad. I seemed to be able to solo up to about 6a but that seemed a bit sketchy. Low 5s are casual. Whatever that means. The beer in England is good. They thought I was Swedish at the hotel. The women and sheep were skeered.

Well actually they are two different countries. Lux will be Limestone, Germany I think Granite or Basalt.
