What's the scoop on the south entrance. When I drive by it, it always seems empty/closed?

That 'restaurant' nearby ever open?

Someone there told me they just don't have the money to staff it (state budget crisis).  Even after the Dowdy Ranch visitor center was opened, they only staffed it from late spring through fall anyway.

I hiked in from Hunting Hollow and spent the night there around Halloween though.  The place was locked, but looked like they were keeping the place up.  The picnic spots were nice camping :)

It's 7 miles on fire road from Bell Station on 152 to the park boundary if you are willing to walk or ride your bike.

Yep closed.   It is a good place to ride or hike to.

Mountain Bikers frequent the place quite regularly.

For riding Hunting Hollow is a good choice and a bit easier to get to than the Headquarters entrance.  There is also a fair amount of good single track.
