East Side on Saturday , June 17

We will probably get there around 11 or 12 when people have started leaving and climbs start to get in shade. Will we see any of you there?
Inch by inch, I will get there.

Won't be so bad in shade. Actually, I think it'll be quite enjoyable because Mud and I are usually the ones who are still wearing a down jacket around town when everyone else is in their T-shirt.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

Yeah, it will be 105 to 108 degrees today. Stay cool! I'm heading to Monterey to beat the heat today, but in the shade yesterday by mid-afternoon it was great at the Pinns.

I think the granite we'll be on at 8,300 feet will be almost as nice as being at Pinns. But I just can't bring myself to drive that far (down there) this time of year.

Just got back from our half day at the West Side. I led Bits and Pieces followed by Rebecca's Sailing - my 47th and 48th onsight leads. I probably would have tried Nipples and Knobs but it was just too dang hot! It was 106 in the parking lot just past noon as we were wrapping up. I'm totally stoked after onsighting those climbs. I have onsighted everything on the NE face except Hunting Spiders and the 10's. KC said I'm her hero!

Yes, it was toasty. 105 when we arrived (after 1pm). The afternoon was spent at the Monolith area. 8 climbs, mostly (all for me) on TR. We weren't moving very fast. Just had dinner at Tres Pinos Inn. Fancy!

There is a fine line between heroism and insanity. I can't even imagine climbing in that heat.

Good job John on the leads!

Oh, I should have made it clear... that was what the temp gauge in the CR-V read at the time when we drove in. In the shade, it was probably somewhere between 90 and 95.  This is neither heroism nor insanity; just some climbing condition less than optimal.

thanks Brad!! when KC got to the top of Bits and Pieces she said "I don't know how the f you led that."

a young female ranger stopped by and watched KC climb B&P.

when i leaned down to double check the anchor before starting up Rebecca's Sailing, sweat poured off my helmet rim.

we stopped at the bridge in the shade for a snack on the way out and talked at length to a trail runner from Vermont and a couple with a little boy who had seen us on route earlier - practicing good relations...

can't wait to get back out there!
