Please pay no mind to this…mtbguru is down and this looks like some free webspace where I can park my ride report until it's back up :-) This is boring and all self-centered and I'll be noodling with the words and photos for a week…
Henry Coe State ParkKangasaw Excursion with Roy.
I'm thinking of a trip out with our old friend Kangasaw. Thinking of trees down on Orestimba Creek Trail, Dutch's Trail and North Fork Trail. We'd have to devise a quick way to get to all three.
Roy
I got a head start start at 8:3oam. Upper 4oºs along Hunting Hollow Road:

Climbing Lyman Willson Ridge Trail, I caught up with and met Daniel

He was doing a very long test ride fully loaded for bike camping.
What It Was Like Out There™, Coit Lake:

Roy was delayed because his bike rack was dragging on the ground on the drive to Coe so he had to stop and put the bike in the back seat…
So, got my car back from the body shop and everything looked ok so I put my rack on and bike and drove. On the way the rack is hitting the ground and I have to put the bike in the car after that. So that took some time. Charlie was already on his way to Pacheco Camp. I wanted to start at 9 but ended up starting at 9:20am.
He caught up with me on Coit Ridge Trail at 11:15am. We took a break at Pacheco Camp then pedaled in the direction of the Orestimba Creek Trail:

Along the way, Roy almost got eaten by monster disguised as a fallen tree:

…but he managed to escape. Close one!
The Orestimba Creek Trail is open to mountain biking 51 weekends per year. Mysteriously, District Superintendent's Order No. 72o-o4-o24 is posted there?

Well the Orestimba Creek Trail isn't listed as "close to bikes" and we continued to the high point of the trail where Roy began Kangasawing on this fallen tree:

Turned out to be a big job but Roy got'er done:

That tree work took from 1pm to 2:15pm, no time to get to the trees on Dutchs or North Fork. We decided to go check out the Canteen Trail. Paul N and Eric S had recently cleared 4 trees on it and I had never ridden it.
4pm, Roy says "That's Canteen Trail":

Yeah, it's pretty over-grown:

We bashed out way down. Paul and Eric's trail work at the bottom was nice
Canteen Spring was flowing; I was out of water so I filtered some. (Tasted good, btw.)
It was now 4:3opm. Sunset was at 6:14pm…time to head home.
We took a last break at Pacheco Camp. Roy got some water. We did a little branch trimming on Lost Spring Trail.

At the bottom of Tule Pond Trail, Roy turned left for a Serpentine/Middle Steer Ridge finish, and I turn right descending Grizzly Gulch Trail. There was a big, nearly full moon in the sky but mid-way down it was dark enough that I had to stop and put on the lights. Back at the Hunting Hollow parking lot (7:o7pm), Roy was already there. Jeff had left a gift for me:

Hi Jeff!
Great ride on a great Fall day!
