Henry Coe State Park December 30, 2012
« on: December 31, 2012, 08:15:37 AM »
Please pay no mind to this…mtbguru is down and this looks like some free webspace where I can park my ride report until it's back up  :-)  This is boring and all self-centered and I'll be noodling with the words and photos for a week…

I haven’t been to Coe for a couple months; my mother had some health difficulties but she’s all better now and today I’m able to get in one last Coe ride into 2012.  I joined Roy, Paul, and Chris on a fallen tree removal mission. Not a big ride, both targets are on the front side of the first ridge out of Hunting Hollow.  #1 is on Grapevine Trail near the Grapevine springs. #2 is at the lower end of Cattle Duster Trail. We begin: Gilroy Hot Springs Road » Coyote Creek gate » Coit Road » Anza Trail » Grapevine Trail…

This is a cool tree arch over the Grapevine Trail:

But that is not our objective…

…this is:

After an hour of work, the trail is clear. Roy pedals through:

With that behind us, we continue up Grapevine and take little break at Coit Springs:

Not much farther up the hill is target #2:

Paul sawing and Roy standing by:

Voilà! It’s cleared:

Just 20 minutes here.

Okay, mission accomplished. We spend the rest of the day JRA….Domino Pond Trail:

Jackson Road – Paul, Chris:

At the top, we took a short break:

It was very nice Winter day. Temps at the valley floor were higher than I expected, and of course, as we climbed, things warmed up.

We get to end the day with a fun Jackson/Anza descent….though the ruts from the recent rain are a bit terrifying – Roy, Chris:

A Christmas present from the trail fairies on an Anza switchback:

Perfectly radiused and man, the corner is quick now!
