East Side above the reservoir is a route called Jingus.

I don't think Mr Mud actually meant that. I think he could do that route out of shape, soloing, naked with a watermelon tied to his waist.

Maybe some background is in order. Mud established Jingus as an aid route (with Clint) in 2000. He's always thought it would go free, but never quite got to it and now isn't in the same shape as he was, say, five years ago. We've razzed him about freeing Jingus over the years, most recently on Kevin's January, 2012 trip report about climbing Los Banditos.

Here's a link to that whole thread:

http://www.mudncrud.com/forums/index.php?topic=1626.0

Near the bottom of the thread's first page, Mud said:

"Put it on your Calendar.  I will go for the free attempt on Saturday, February 23 2013.  At the end of the day, regardless of the outcome, I will provide beer, beverages, and munchies. You read it here."

We quickly deduced a little lower in the thread that the date he mentioned will be the last Saturday before Mud turns 50 years old.

This will be a very scary and very hard first free ascent. I hope he can be ready by then (I'd be honored to belay him if he decides to give it a go). On the other hand, if he decides he isn't ready to give it a go, then so what. In other words, I hope to hell he can get there, but if not, Jingus ain't going anywhere (unlike many Pinns routes that get climbed often - and are "going somewhere" - this one never gets climbed and what "holds" there are will be there for years to come).

My unsolicited advice? Dude, only if you're really ready; it's not worth getting hurt over.

There is no way I will be ready by the end of this season.  I will still provide as stated.  I will most likely lead something like cleft instead.

On the up side I have made it to the gym for the second week in a row.  Managed to get to the gym today even though I have a nasty bug of some sort.

Moral support my ass. You can be a bouldering pad.

Sounds like we're all in for a 50th birthday climb-in at Pinns on February 23rd!!

The last time I was his bouldering pad....it didn't end so well (for him)...

I'd say an over-night as well, but it'll be way too cold (or not).

Some sort of celebration or roast is in order...or burritos @ SuperT?

Well managed to pass the 1 Month mark.  So far I have made it to the gym for five weeks straight.  Not doing a lot mostly cardio and some ab work but feeling better already.  Managed to top 300 watts on the exercise bike for a short period of time.  Perhaps that should read 300 watts for a very short period of time :)

Suddenly I'm in the same boat. Climbing with Chris in Spain makes me feel like a load of dirty laundry. We climbed at the severely overhanging Santa Linya, where there are more 9th grade routes than anywhere in the world. It s hard to comprehend the immensity of this 50m tall by 100m wide cave. At this point I can only make it up the bottom 1/8 of the wall. 6 weeks from now I might be able to top out that wall.... Maybe

Hope you send it and post a couple pics.  Sounds wild.  You will be ready to do laps on Ranger Bolts when you get back.
