“Coe lazy ride” - Dan
“Coe Ride - Super Social Pace” – Shiloh
Well of course, it was a Dan and Shiloh Ride. We began with a Make a Tire Track Circle contest:

9:40am A leisurely pace up the Jim Donnelly Trail and Steer Ridge Road and at 11am we got to the Serpentine rocks at the top (near Willson Peak). A 40 minute conversation ensued. I mentioned that Serpentine was the California State Rock and that last year there was a bill in Sacramento to “de-state rock it”. Shiloh thought that was an odd way to put it. To deflect, I asked where were her home baked goodies for the ride? With a sigh, Shiloh had to explain to us
in person that her oven was broken because we weren’t on facebook and didn’t see her “Wall” about her broken oven. Man, I need to be on facebook! :-)
It was sunny and warm, and the convo fun but finally, we got going again…down the Willson Peak Trail and turn right to go up the Grizzly Gulch Trail/Road:

Roy, Shiloh, Dan, Jay.
Shiloh:

At Rodeo Pond we split up. Like a lot of people this January, Dan had been sick and wasn’t up for more riding. Dan, Shiloh, and their friend Jay returned via Lyman Willson. It was 12:15pm, Roy and I headed off for the Pacheco Ridge.
Along the way…
1:45pm Coit Lake:

2pm Roy got a flat tire on the Coit Ridge Trail:

Luckily that happened before the steep (downhill) part. Another 50' further up the trail and a flat front tire would have been big-time trouble!
3pm We reach the Pacheco Ridge Road / Laurel Trail intersection. Roy rode out to the Canteen Trail but I wanted to clear a fallen pine off the Laurel Trail so I went directly to here:

With a small hand saw I cut the trunk into 3 pieces. Roy’s route had him circling around Pacheco Ridge » Canteen Trail » Pacheco Creek Trail and up Laurel; he arrived just when I needed help dragging the pieces off the trail. The finished product:

Lots of blossoming Manzanita on Laurel Trail;

The tree work was done at 3:40pm; the return trip begins. Here is Roy turning off the Pacheco Creek Trail and up the Rose Dam Trail:

We reach Sierra View at ~5:30pm and put on our lights for the Domino Pond / Cattleduster / Grapevine / Anza downhill. During the steep climb on the Anza switchback, a stick knocked my chain into my spokes. That was a hassle to fix (in the dark). That interruption was 8 minutes. Roy was waiting for me at the bottom of Anza chatting with Brian W. The 3 of us rode back to the cars…
Say “Hi” Brian:

…arriving at 6:40pm. My bike computer read 35º, everyone packed up quickly!
