Just seeing this thread, but I echo Atomizer's sentiments about volunteers: they are definitely official, and do cost the park a bit of money (through training, equipment use, etc.). We have an increasing group of volunteers helping out with different programs in the park, including condor tracking, raptor monitoring, invasive plant removal, maintenance projects, PSAR (preventative search & rescue), etc. These are people that want to help out park operations at Pinnacles but aren't necessarily available 40 hours a week. Particularly given the funding shortfall the past several years, it has been great to have them on board and passionate about Pinnacles resources.
