Pictures from MOM
« on: April 21, 2014, 03:27:35 PM »
I figure a new thread is justified with the mass of digital cameras I saw on hand last weekend.

Here is my experience.

On Friday, Joe and I started off with a calf busting hike up to THE SPOT that eventually ended in darkness

I finally witnessed a real onsight master in action on some new mud.

Splendid summit party with two of the Youngs on the summit.

Brad practiced his rope toss skills and we followed, by both free and aid styles.

Why don't we all teach KC how to do it.

Styling

Teamwork = Success

After bagging some onsights on The watchmen with JC (which I neglected to visually document), I went for a nice nature walk.

I visited the most gravity defying mass of overhanging mud, Little Mustagh, looking for a free line.

Mugs were distributed...

and filled with some proper beverage by Mr. Mud.

A few of us followed Brad for a walk because he wanted to watch TV.

But someone was distracted by friends.

The same guy also broke some rules with some fatty pig.

Partying ensued until after midnight but I had to much fun to realize I should capture it.

There were some fresh faces and new friends made. Love the shirt.

All in all it was a great weekend. Looking forward to next year and adventures with many much sooner.

We didn't have fun.

It was hot, windy, sunny and tons of people.

Maybe a fall gathering is needed...just for you?

Awesome looking time!

Great photos, and very cool boulder stack FA.

That is what dreams are made of.

clink and I were planning to do some work today finishing up an FA from last weekend and maybe a little refurbishing elsewhere - but it looks like we are rained out...it's beautiful all week and then rain moves in for the weekend - flashback to living in the east? .05 inches in the last few hours...
Oh well, back to the good stuff - pictures!

Tricia led the whole length of First Sister West Face - Center Route (5.4). As we prepared for her lead, she realized that there was a serious run-out to the first protection, but then quickly saw that the first ten feet were the only fifth class on this part of the route. She was OK with this. Also, Steve Dawson was at the first anchor, getting ready to rap down, and for added safety he waited for her to make sure she was OK (and to take photos). Here she is on the upper part of the route:

She did well on this route, but this lead, combined with more climbing she did later on our trip at a Santa Barbara area crag made me realize that, growing girl or not, she really needs decent shoes and not the hand-me-down, worn out clown shoes she's been climbing in (they're a size and a half too big). Here's the result:

And here's the before and after:

She bouldered in these some the same day we got them. They fit well and she's happy with them.
