Might I suggest a lower impact pursuit .....say bird watching?

Mud style? Load bike, kayak and climbing gear in vehicle, drive to coast. Ride bike carrying kayak and gear 5 miles down path to obscure beach. Kayak to small island 1/2 mile out. Rappel off clumps of native plants to view rare bird.

How 'bout barbecuing or paint by number?

You can have my wetsuit and long board - haven't had them out in years.

And I disagree that surfing is the only thing that compares to climbing...You-Knee-Sigh-Kill :)

Many years ago, Yvon Chouinard said: “Without climbing, we’d all be surfers”

I think he was referring to the lifestyle choice.

But he also said he enjoyed climbing a lot more before it became economically driven, hence his departure from BD.

Time to go surfing... because its as rad if not radder than climbing.

bicycles are rad and bicycling in the USA is one of the last mainstream outlaw sports.  There is true dislike of bicycles.  Our local email list always flairs up when bicyclists are mentioned.  Hell, even the Sierra club hates bicyclists.

Climbing has become legit and is fairly mainstream.  Unless of course you climb obscure Pinnacles routes.

"mainstream outlaw sports"

you can't be mainstream and outlaw at the same time.

Skating pools in foreclosed properties in Fresno is outlaw.

Cycling has their bike lanes for fuk sake.

You don't see but a single NPS sanctioned climbing route that is maintained by the park service (Half Dome cables).

Wow, way to twist a comment around to something it obviously never meant. For someone who often pisses and moans about "lawyers," you're pretty good at acting like one  ;)

Munge, Skating is mostly mainstream now.  heck when I was in ER two little girls were in there because of them.  Climbing is mainstream.  When you have as many participants on plastic as you do on rock, well, game over.  Bike lanes?  Are you talking about side walks?  I have had way more close calls riding a bike on the road than probably every other pursuit put together.  Most of those close calls involved a vehicle of some sort.  Commuting by bicycle around Phoenix was probably the single most dangerous activity of my life.  I have Stories!
