It's almost certainly in Joshua Tree National Park, in Southern California.

Who can help it? So, it was disheartening when I did a Google image search and found that this very same image has been associated with tens of articles and webpages pretending that the image has anything to do with the content. On this one, we have some insider knowledge to call out foul, but I can't help but wonder how many articles I have read over the years that had false content and images that misled me into certain interpretation when I had no idea!
