I'm with Munge. I followed that route until the right turn up Miller Canyon back in 1976. The trails were decent then, but we still had tons of ticks. Pine Valley? I'll go there any time. I'll take my Frontline, though.

All the worry about poison oak and ticks? Even the flies that are there in the Ventana (hovering around your face but not biting)?

I'd take all of them times two if I could never see another damn mosquito again. I genuinely hate those little buggers.

Of course then there are the real mountain hazards too. Like springtime alder bushes overlaying granite. Nice soft bark and wet leaves. Once you start slipping on those, you just keep going - even if only in slow motion and only for a foot or so:
