I would have posted more widely but was limited by space.   ;)

Anyhoo...the start of pitch 7 has a pin hole about chest height with yellow jacket activity.  At least one, agitated bugger was checking us out while we were around.  I don't suspect they were simply seeking shade.  Possible nest-building and as the season goes on, likely to be more aggressive.

If you're allergic, like me, be careful in the next few months when they get extra cranky.

It nearly shut down our Chick Assault on Old O but I couldn't imagine going that far and not finishing!  (with Epi Pen handy!)

Did you really have an Epi-pen with you?

Looks like I'm skipping Roger's bachelor party in the Lost World today and instead climbing with two Santa Cruzians (Whitney and Alex). They're going to let me lead an offwidth so I can get a new route in.

Two Epi's, to be precise.  Can never be too careful.

There's some truth in that when a single sting could stop your breathing. Do your partners know you've got them with you? Do they know how to use an Epi if you needed it and weren't able to do it to yourself?

P.S. There's a long and classic route in Red Rocks named "Epinephrine" after a very close call one of the FA party had from just one bee sting.

1. Loose rock is a similar one way door...

2. Luck has nothing to do with success in such ventures.

3. Alex led brilliantly today (and, I think, had fun).

4. My new route for the day, the 5.9 offwidth, turned out to be a disappointment; it wasn't 5.9 (I'da gone with 5.8 for its rating), the climbing wasn't offwidth, only the pro was, and the first 3/4 of the route was filthy, loose and seeping water (and without the history, traditions and fun that Pinnacles provides to its often filthy, and loose routes). Oh well, at least I did get to deploy the orange highlighter.

that crack is a classic! The filth below is great when it doesn't have water on it. Try it again later.

That crack has 30 feet of good climbing which doesn't redeem the 80 feet of garbage (wet or dry) that it takes to get there.

You got that right. You're just jealous 'cause we highjacked Crux's thread instead of yours (but you didn't start one, so we had nothing of yours to "jack").

If that is your response to first aid... :o

Thanks, and I think I had fun too....

And I'm pretty sure the 5th class qualified as a slip n' slide. It's funny how slick granite made me miss the loose stuff in the Pinns.

Yellow jackets must surely drop the star rating a star or two. >:D
