Big Basin / Butano May 22, 2015
« on: June 09, 2015, 07:56:46 AM »

Some photos from a group ride in the Big Basin and Butano State Parks area. The pics are a mash-up of Peter T's and mine.

5 of us rolled out at 10:30am in foggy conditions. Actually, it was a cloud layer and once we dropped below it, it was okay. We kept to the usual route which begins Gazos Creek Road » Sandy Point...

Sandy Point, yep, still weird:

The usual longing looks at the Henry Creek Trail:

Reed redacting the "NO":

Greetings from The Chalks:

JL arrives at Chalk Mtn:

JL started 45 minutes after us.

"Wow, I got here in just one hour!"

"…Hey, anyone have a jacket???"

Product placement:

Mystery shed at the other Chalks viewpoint:

Mystery rider at a mystery location:

Today, instead of riding Hwy 1, we tried the Old Coast Hwy:

Much calmer.

Lunch stop at the Hwy 1 Brewery:

l to r, Jim, JL, Kerry, Peter, Reed:

What It Was Like Out There™

After lunch we made a stop at the Gazos Creek Beach:

Starting back, we encounter a very hazard situation:

As someone posted on fb, "Don't tell the industry."

Up the Butano Fire Road…JL disappears into the distance:

Lower elevations things were fine; overcast but nice cool temps to climb in.

^Jim

After a while, we're back into the clouds:

With the moisture, dirt cakes to the tires. The tires then get coated with gravel. It's like riding in molasses.

Looking over the top of your glasses is the only way to see:

^Kerry

We all made it okay, Peter stating that this was the first time he completed it without cramping. While it never rained, we were soaked at the end. Brrrrrrr. We dispersed pretty quickly post-ride.

I spent so much time as a boy in these parks. Nice to see them again through your photos.

Yours must be Old Crusty Mtn. then, you being the only present life form to begin to petrify while still living. Do you scrape the moss off or shave first?

Just revisited this for another deep belly laugh.

Are you sure petrify is the right choice?
I figured that's why the habitual dipping of the poorly lithified calcareous ooze - petrified.
I think in my case it might be putrify :)
