NPS speculation on bat movement

Ok, this seems unlikely. Wasn't the cave open year round for decades?  If so, the bats movement is not permanent but of course they want to immediately speculate that users caused the movement as if it were dangerous to the colony.



I'm basing this post on hearsay, so take it for that, but I find it interesting that the approach is by no means scientific in the reporting.

current condition- The lower portion of the cave is open. A survey of the bat colony revealed that the maternity colony of Townsend's big-eared bats has vacated the lower portion of the cave. Therefore, the lower portion of the cave is open, effective immediately.
