40 Days of Rain - And Doing all the 12's or 12's and harder
« on: March 01, 2016, 11:04:53 AM »
Question came up the other day:  How many people have done Forty Days of Rain?  Even more so how many people have done Forty Days of Rain in the last 10 years.  Does anyone have a list of any of the names?  KY?  Adam?  Mark?

Anyone have an idea of how often it might get climbed?

How many people have done all the 12's or 12's and above?
I think Jim Herson was on this list if not he was close but new routes have gone up since he completed ( I think ).

thanks

Why in the name of all that is holey did you have to mention rain? Boo!

Worse yet you had to say 40 days of rain.
Long term forecast currently shows at least the next two weekends rained out.
Guess we gotta pay for what we just experienced - Indian Summer in February...

I've done 40 Days. Funky route but quite fun!

I've done everything .12 and harder on the East Side except for Yo Mamma and Zippity Do Dah. Neither have seemed appealing enough to try.

I wonder what the rating of Zippity is now? Is it only kitty litter leftovers?

I did the upper part of Yo Mama it did not seem to bad.  The lower part seemed hard, small crimps and long reaches.

I've never tried 40 days of rain. I belayed Sharma on it and he took a near fatal fall when a giant ledge/hold broke off. He was 30-40 feet up with no pro. He fell about ten feet and caught himself like a cat another hold. It was mighty impressive but didn't exactly make me want to try it. That route sure has some mystique.

I had not heard that story.  Now both the climb and Sharma have more mystique.  Glad he caught himself but probably not as glad as you are since you were there. Out of curiosity, did he finish the route or call it a day?

30 feet with no pro on 40 days? Intentionally avoiding protection?

I've tried 14 days of rain and didn't care much for it.
Much like the fish story Atom told above - can't believe you suckers fell for it - multiple puns intended  ;D

It all started from Anne's casual comment on Facebook, " Now that's throwing it way way back to the BJ (Before Jailhouse) days when Jim Herson achieved his goal of sending everything then established on the Pinnacles East Side 5.12 and up. Wonder if anyone has redpointed, say, 40 days of Rain, since then!"  Since it appears to concern some history at Pinnacles, of course I took it seriously and asked Mr Mud if he had the answer. I was surprised that he did not keep track of every ascent at Pinnacles (like Clint Cummins did for Yosemite) and he posted the question here.

Come to think of it, I think that was just a rhetorical question from a proud wife. She probably wasn't really seeking an answer, but it's nice to hear stories from you climbers who pushed limits. Glad that Sharma's climbing career (or even life) did not end on 40 Days of Rain.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

JC, you got your Bible stories switched. Noah built a large boat and transported land animals and creatures while it rained for forty days.  Jonah was in the fish story. A few of the disciples were fishermen. Jesus and Peter walked on water.  Water sking hadn't been invented yet, but taxes had. So there must have been accountants. No geologists.

I'm not sure that I'm tracking all of this conversation. So let me just say that I think our country should make pre-shredded cheese illegal.
