Southern Fried High Peaks
« on: April 03, 2016, 10:11:49 AM »
With the southern end of the High Peaks reopened, we enjoyed a sunny day in the Scout Peak/Beak Peak area yesterday.

I warmed up by leading Tracker 5.6R

Sparky’s Merit Badge 5.8

This route would definitely get a star if it were not for the poor rock quality on the left side at the start. The gear is questionable and the moves are awkward. Not being able to trust the rock increased the difficulty substantially for me.
I came close to pitching off this thing doing the moves to the first bolt.

After you get past the start, this climb is just fun! The middle has some good moves on much better rock. The moves past the 3rd bolt here are especially cool. 8)

Shades of Jade 5.8** is terrific!

Noal took us on a romp to finish out the day. :o

And a scramble down this slot toward the end of the day. Comedy and kindness ensued getting down the next section – sorry no pic – but good memories. ;D ;D ;D

That shirt goes way beyond hideous. The shoes are funny. Now if you could just learn how to post a picture!!
I'm going to call Martha and tell her to take away your cell phone and any other internet devices you may have stashed away. We will try to get you in therapy when you get back!  ;D

You are only a chalk bag short of a sporty climber.

Yesterday we visited Stoney Point. Martha liked the area. That shirt was hideous, I was tempted to buy it for Geoff. The shoes I did buy. size 13, I get more for my $$.  Fresh fish and brown rice for dinner* so healthy. Five large Pepperidge Farm chocolate  chip cookies and two glasses of whole milk topped off a nice day.

Martha took some pics. I emailed them to you.

Did other tourists stop and ask to take pictures with Bigfoot?  :o

Step away from that sandstone and find something volcanic - quick!

Hi, John

Glad you liked Shades of Jade and got out to take a look at the new Pinnacle route.   Looks like a really good day.
