New project on the Flumes?
« on: August 24, 2016, 08:32:53 AM »
I was hiking up to the Crowley towers with my daughter the other day and spotted this line off the climbers trail on the backside of the flumes. There are 3 bolts pretty closely spaced, likely aidable. The first bolt is pretty close to the ground, a far reach or a small move would get you there it looks like and a link is on the 3rd bolt. It moves into a nice, fun looking nobby chute and then onto a lower angle slab. I looked for a while but could not spot a 4th bolt. All 3 bolts look shiny and new and its not on the 2015 upper flumes topo. I spotted it hiking up the climbers trail and went up for a close look and quickly saw the bolts. It looks like a fun route!
When in doubt, run it out!

This is it... I'm not sure if there is a 4th bolt or not.

I'm not sure why the picture is sideways.
When in doubt, run it out!

Max,

That is an old toprope line (Yo Mama Lives in That Cave) that clink and Aaron started bolting ground up last year.
They need to finish it.
I didn't think the first bolt was that close to the ground or the bolts that closely spaced.

From your picture, that is definitely it.
I thought there were only 2 bolts but I could be wrong.
Definitely unfinished.
You'll probably have more comments today.

Oh cool! So there's an anchor on top then? I'll have to go mess around on it.

My perception of the bolt placements may have been skewed by the sweltering heat that day.
When in doubt, run it out!

I'm pretty sure this was taken the last day they worked on it.

To be clear, the route is in the 2007 guidebook, but as a top route route (on page 280).

(Cue Clink getting on this thread and ranting about how topropes aren't routes....)

Hm. Good to know. I'll check it out right now. I didn't even think to check to see if it was a toprope in the guidebook. I usually just skip over them.

Rant, rant. There was no apparent route from the ground.

Aaron drilled a difficult first stance.

Max have at it if you wish or join us this winter.

BTW I am the proud onsight FAer of 5 TR's  >:DThese were off anchors on legit FA's.
.
Now,  someone may lead one (or all) and let it be a FA.

Ask Geoff about the subject if you want entertainment.

This winter?! Hell! Lets go tonight! I'm headed out there right now! I've got the bolt kit and everything! Haha

But yeah! I would love to join you guys on that project or any other! Just let me know, I'm out there a couple times a week

When in doubt, run it out!

It's a neat line. But no one in their right mind is going to Pinns in the Summer. So if you were just there, you'll fit right in!

:)

If this goes right, I won't have to drill any bolts at this rate!

Check with this guy though, see if he wants to finish the line himself. He'd solo'd most of it, but he could have been on a variant...
