Hey people with children, so how do you keep these animals warm at night for camping. Kim's too young for a sleeping bag (Suffocation hazard) - 8 months. It's gonna be 40s. I could mangle the dog's sleeping bag into a baby sized sleep sack. Is that what you guys did too?

Hi Laura -- This is Vicki. We've used various methods. One is to use a regular [warm] sleeping bag, but tie it off half-way down (belt, rope, bandana) so the warmth stays around the baby. Extra pad below, blanket over all. Or cuddle her in with you in your bag (at 8 mos., that's probably your best bet). Got two bags that zip together? All 3 of you. Or make a nest with bags below you, opened, and blankets above. Put her in warm jammies and a hat, of course. If she's an "active sleeper" like our youngest (she was known to actually crawl into my shirt WITH me) use your clothing bags/climbing packs/suitcases/stuffsacks to wall the two of you into a smaller area so she won't get too far away. And you sleep on the outside, against the tent wall. It's kinda short notice, but I was able to find really thick fleece one-piece jammies that worked well (Columbia?). Then when I found that the fleece picked up all the detritus the child crawled thru in camp, I added a set of rain gear over the top of that. Good luck!

Thanks Vicki. She's pretty active, so I think we will fleece her up in the tent. Good to know about the detritus. We'll have to start shopping for rain gear for next time ;)

I am looking forward to this weekend.  I got the part about the limited parking spots at this group site.  Can someone make sure there is a temporary unloading zone parking spot that is not blocking traffic for unloading camping gear before parking at the overflow parking?

Brian and I will be headed down as well. Looking forward to seeing you all!

Are all the sleep-in-car spots spoken for? We'd like to sleep in our truck if there's a parking spot open, but can pack a tent too.

Not that I'm aware of. As far as I know we are the only ones with a vehicle set up to sleep in.
Other people I can think of that have sleep-in vehicles are Larry, mungie and Joel but I don't think they are coming.
You could take a tent just in case.

Looks like I won’t be making it after all :(. Work screws up everything.

I will second everything Vicky said about sleeping arrangements for kids.  2 and under have done really well in fleece footie pj’s and co-sleeping in a double bag.

I’ve also used a larger tent with a folding cradle/rocker and a bunch of blankets.  Or even just a nest of blankets on the ground.  Kids are shockingly adaptable. Especially when roasted marshmallows are involved.

Older kids get sleeping bags and a large wall between then to keep the peace.

Joel is coming, but he's aware of the limited parking and as a result won't be sleeping in his truck (it can be parked in overflow).

Excellent - I am glad he is going to make it.
I also wanted to mention that Kat and I and Mark will be bringing propane fire pits - maybe Caleb too - so there is no need to bring any fire wood.

Yeah, I am going to spark it up on 4-20 - a propane fire pit that is.  No need to bring firewood.

Tricia is coming. She's been on the fence bout coming or not since she has an invitational track meet on Saturday and an important AP European History study session Sunday afternoon. She'll be there, but she and I will be leaving by 11:30 on Sunday to make it home for the study session.
