Ideal rope length for the monument?
« on: December 07, 2019, 06:26:44 PM »
What does the peanut gallery say?

50m?
60m?
70m?

50m would be lighter and REI has one on clearance.

If you like to plan your day ahead of time 50 is good. 60 If you prefer being able wander freely adding climbs to your day on the fly. 70 is good for solo toprope.

The color of your rope is important too. Drab, bright, fun, experimental, adventurous, subdued, metro, or bi-, the color of your rope can exemplify and accent your personality, or be a pleasant distraction from large gaps in some people's social skills.

A random stranger walking down a beautiful but lonely section of trail, sees you in the wilderness, first impressions are so important. Will this person feel at ease, inclined to converse, comment, you have that "first responder look", or feel uneasy, paranoid, frantically thinking(did I miss a news alert, I have no cell service...?) The right color rope can make such a difference.
Causing trouble when not climbing.

Clink. Luckily I tricked, I mean met my wife Abalone diving.

Yes, the colors is a key part. I currently went with lime green to annoy Squiddo.
We used to lament bright colors as they would get dirty. Then again black was even worse when hot.

My thought is to trick Mr Mud with a 50m, but tell him it’s a 70m.
That way on his new routes.....pitches are a reasonable length.

Noal, yeah there was a 1/2 serious part of me that mulled...if used right say: high peaks or discovery wall?? A 50m would be fine. Now a 50 on Lava Falls would be painful. I seem to recall the 1st pitch being a bit long!!

The color of your rope is important too.

Can someone please invent an app that I can use to shock him when he picks up his phone or touches the computer keyboard?

I've found a 60 to be fine for Lava and most other Pinnacles fun and games. I never object to a 70, however, if somebody else carries it, even if it's lime green.

Nice video of Gavin and Alacia (ten or so years old).

Which brings up a question: where the hell do you find this kind of stuff?

They look young. In some of those photos they may have been 10 years old.

Now how about an 80m rope?

One could do some linking of routes, like one end leads wet kiss and the other end lead big pucker.
