A few years back (summer 2012 I believe), R&I had a nice write up on Pinnacles. If I remember right it had some interesting historical references as well as other cool tidbits. I would love to reread it, especially with the cabin fever going on right now that we all have to endure. I cannot seem to find it online. Do any of you choss eficiendos know if there is a link to that article or if it is lurking in the cyber world somewhere? Many thanks!

Did you see the one from 2015 in the California Climbing mag? There is a link on here somewhere. I think the one in Rock and Ice was also a Jim Thornberg article or they used some of his shots.. He's on Instagram maybe send him a message and he can help you out.

I found the article & photos by Jim Thornberg in the California Climbing mag online. There is a particularly nice photo of someone leading the Salathe route on The Hand. Some cool photos (though I don’t think any of the climbers were wearing a helmet, maybe no big deal, just something I noticed for some reason).

I think in the era that those photo's were taken it was not common to wear a helmet.

If I remember correctly that is the old photo from Roper's guidebook.

Actually it’s a more recent pic of 2 women, taken by Jim Thornberg. The cover photo (winter 2014) looks like someone on Lava Falls.

Not saying that I agree one way or the other but most iconic climbing photography is of climbers not wearing helmets. How else would you get that wind blowing through the hair look?

Helmets have a better chance of getting a cover shot if gear company stickers are placed strategically.

It's all bidness.

That old picture from the Roper guide is good, I’m pretty sure I know the one you are referring to. I will say though that the newer Thornberg pic is pretty cool. Makes it look harder than 5.6. I know it felt harder than 5.6 when I did it, but then again I tend to get a little chicken on those old school run out climbs, and that’s a pretty old school climb! One of the things that make the place so special!!

Getting blown shirtless next to a waterfall with a rainbow is pretty sweet too!

It was so hot today I took my shirt off and jumped in the creek. There was nothing blowing down there.

At one point today, Katie and the dogs hiked on ahead while I grabbed some water. Their goal was the creek below, just like Noal.

They not only jumped in, they started screaming at Katie in dog language to hurry up and throw sticks. In a creek that was four feet across. Hiking down toward them I could have sworn someone was dying. Good lord.

It was almost 80 degrees at Kennedy meadows. But it's supposed to get into the 30s around the house by Sunday night.

The "5.8" "two star" route turned out to be 5.9 R and Katie kept having to move further left to avoid all the crumbles of rock I was sending down. Damn glad I didn't come off.

I would say post the video to you tube and then use the embed option here but it appears that is no longer an option after the upgrade.

I guess I abused the feature with all those Neil Young and comedy videos. Sorry.
