Work on getting this forum fixed
« on: March 13, 2022, 02:22:01 PM »
Hey MudnCrud,

It has been a little while.  I am working on the Mud'nCrud forum to try and help fix issues with posting.  Can you please give me some feedback on what is not working right now? I understand when you post; sometimes funny characters show up.  (Yeah, I know, Cochrane doesn't count) :)  Please describe what is going on, and I will do my best to get to the bottom of the issue.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hey Aaron,

I cannot write anything with an apostrophe. Anything after the apostrophe is truncated.

I first noticed a problem when I was trying to update the Rebolting Master List.

I just tried it again and evidently quotes also cause things to go haywire. It seems to be mainly punctuation marks but I am not sure what all is included. Clues seem to be on the New Routes list. I'll scan it right now.

I just started down the list and there are inconsistencies possibly based on the date of the mod? I see apostrophes that display fine on older routes and others that are totally whacked on newer stuff. I just tried to copy and paste text (plain text document) with quotation marks and it would not work - but I see them on older route listings displaying just fine.

Wait! I think I got it

Nope.

The behavior I see has been apostrophes, usually the words do not as a contraction.

When Aaron gets this thing figured out we will have to have a party at Punctuation Pinnacle.

We can play some Zappa. Just not too early.

Can we please get specific?  Last time I checked there were 14 punction marks available in the English language.  I need to be able to repeat the issue.
1. period,
2. question mark?
3. exclamation point!
4. comma,
5. colon:
6. semicolon;
7. dash -
8. hyphen -
9. [(brackets)]
10. {braces},
11. 'parentheses'
12. apostrophe's are not truncating.
13. "quotation mark"
14.  and ellipsis.... ///\\\

These seem to all work for me.

Can you please confrim this is only a problem on the new established routes?

Aaron, I just got home an hour ago, but two problems come immediately to mind.

-  I can not post to or even modify either of the sticky threads that I try to keep up to date, namely the New Routes and Corrections threads. This problem continues.

-  There has been a problem posting with apostrophes in that the posting is cut off from the first apostrophe. In other words, the apostrophe and everything after it are eliminated from the post. I just tried to post with apostrophes and two posts worked just fine (all of the text appeared). So maybe this issue is fixed? Or maybe it is just sporadic (and therefore harder to fix!).

These are all of the issues I can recall right now regarding trying to post new stuff. I'll add to this if I find or recall any other such issues.

There are other issues that seem to have affected (or infected) already posted stuff (it's very prominent in the New Routes thread, for example, but I have noticed the same infection in my PCT posts too). I'll come back to this subject tomorrow (I gotta focus on being home for now).

I tried to be specific. I cannot copy and paste my list from a plain text document. I can send you the list if you want to try. I have seen members posts get truncated when they type an apostrophe but it obviously does not happen all the time. Not sure what to tell you at this point.
