Africa 22

It's a big world outside of the Monument.

Took the family on a Safari in South Africa in August.
Fun times and who would have thought the national past time was dodging potholes?

Locals waiting for Mr Mud to visit

Any more just chilling

For Gavin.....there were birds

Um, Factor, I'd love to see your photos and read your text.

But the photos are WAY too big! I  can see about 1/4 of each photo on my computer screen without scrolling and scrolling ruins the effect.

noted Brad

That's annoying as with Smugmug you used to be able to link the Large sized Image or the smaller one.
I had liked just the image, but it was showing in the large format.

I linked the pictures from Flikr and those are showing in a smaller format.

Much better.

Where in South Africa (at least near where - what city or what part of the country)?

Busy working and training…

Let me expand…

We were in South Africa on the westside in the Zulu Natal province.
Our game lodge was Zulu Nyala where we stayed for 6 nights.
It’a about 2hrs north of Durban and an hour inland.
Every morning and afternoon we would go on game drives.
It’s an odd experience being in a car, can’t get out and you have to be quiet.
Perfect for Mr Muds retirement!!

The lodge’s game reserve was not big enough to house the lions, which is crazy since Zulu Nyala was big.
The game reserve near by was even larger and had a few lions.

The funny part was we were checking them out in a grassy area near a road.
Folks driving by would never have sewn the lions.

We also went to national park near our game reserve. That was where we saw the rinos.

The 2nd part of the Africa trip was to the Drakensburg range outside of Durban.
It’s was like being at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, looking up.

We did a couple hikes…lots of rock but I saw now route development. I doubt they would allow since where we were was a preserve. I have not gone through the pictures from the 2nd part.

I’ll keep editing the post and clean it up.

^^^

I'd have had to take a day each in that province to visit the Spion Kop and Colenso battlefields.

I mean wildlife is great and all, but we're talking history!!

Yes, yes, we were near some of the battlefields and James had wanted to visit them.
We just didn't have the time (crazy as there was so much to see).

I agree, yes those spots would be worth the visit.

We saw the North and South Drakensburg so that had us driving alot.
Had we just stuck to the north (?) then yes we would have had the time.

 Cool F4!

All the animals have a determined look about them, except for the lion. Yep, chilling.

Munge is going to make someone a very good father (that "joke" is on my list of Dad jokes).

Or maybe just an excellent uncle?
