My New Ride - Carbon Pron Inside!
« on: June 06, 2007, 10:57:52 PM »

Cervelo P3 Carbon
Dura Ace package
Several Bontrager Upgrades
Double Wireless Cat Eye

I got to admit the first few rides on some of the local hills such as Cantelow, Steiger, Cardiac show that its a little bit more muscular then my road bike (Specialized Allez Elite) but man, on the flats, this thing practically pedals itself :)  Can't wait for my next race!

Wow! Roughster, are you married?  Excuse me for my rude question, but it was Factor who started the trend.  ;D

The bike pedals itself; can it keep itself along with you on it upright too? I'm looking for something like that.

BTW, what are those pointy things at the bar end?  They make me nervous.

P.S. Welcome to the forums.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

The pointy things would be the shifters and brake levers...

That is a nice looking bike. Even my steel-snob-self can see that.  ;)

Hehe I am married, and yes I had to beg to get it.  I am now officially present-less for Father's Day, My B-day, and Xmas, but Hell I think its worth it :)  She even got a new set of patio furniture out of the deal!

The aerobars are the pointing things at the end and as mentioned earlier by F'ueco mentioned, they have the shifters.  In essence, you rest your forearms on the pads just above the stem and reach out and hold onto the horizontal bars with your arms fairly close together.  This is the typical "time trial' (TT) position you will see people in crits or TT races.  It also happens to be the most aerodynamic position for long distance riding and is heavily used for triathlons (which is why I bought the bike aka for triathlons).  It does take a bit of time to get used to riding in that position, but once mastered, I actually prefer to be in the aero-position than upright due to the increase in efficiency by the reduced wind resistance.

I'll be looking to cruise the Silverado Trail and Mt. Diablo on some fun weekend rides if anyone is interested in that.  I don't know much about the South Bay rides, but I would game for anything around the South Bay that people think is a classic ride.

Sheesh! I was just trying to give F'heco a hard time. $500 bones is alot to pay for a light. And then to not be home using it in the dark it is another story.

Although I'm currently headig into that boat myself with bike commuting again.

The Cervelo's are nice. Is that a time trial or Tri bike? Puts my old teal thing to shame.
I'm not worthy.

This is the P3 Carbon, which used in Time Trials and Triathlons.  In fact, Dave Zabriskie used the exact same bike I have (plus Zipp wheels - which will be my next purchase) in the last Time Trial of the Giro d'Italia:

As for your bike, I rode my Allez Elite for 4 years and still have it set up on the trainer.  It took me 4 years of riding untold #s of triathlons and 2 Ironmans before I could convince my wife that it was worth it for me to buy.

Nope, I am missing the granny ring while I get used to it on some the longer hills, however, I am looking at it as a training opportunity.  Without the granny ring, I have no other choice but to push the bigger gear and hopefully get stronger for it  ;D

You missed that happy face on Mr Mud (I know it's easy to miss). He said it was a joke.

Ha ha ha (laughing in support)

BTW, there are tons of good rides here in the Peninsula. I'm sure there are some in South Bay, but my personal experience is very very limited.  Mr Mud and I have always wanted to do a local loop that includes Alpine, Old La Honda, Pescadero Road, Stage Road, and Tunitas, or a Mt Hamilton ride. But we haven't gotten around to do either. I should not offer to ride with you because I'll be too slow for you (your average speed is 20+mph on that ride you posted in another thread).

Edit: Oops, just saw that you said "not my data" in that post. But still, with that sexy looking bike, you probably will leave me in the dust anyway.
