Humble Pie
« on: September 02, 2007, 09:24:55 AM »
Erik Bratton and I went to go diving up around Fort Ross.  My sinus block has not gone away so we did a 24 minute 25 foot dive.  Was nice while it lasted.  Was hoping to do some spearfishing but  was shutdown.  Once the block kicks in I am unable to even get my head below the Surface.

We then met up with Jerry Dodril of Dodrill Gallery http://www.jerrydodrill.com/ .  He showed us some local beach boulering near his gallery in Bodega.  It was beautiful (The Gallery and the bouldering).  As the sun was setting I went for one last "classic" problem, a hold broke, my foot landed on the edge of the pad and I heard a pop as my foot twisted.  My ankle swole up.  Jerry and Erik helped get up to the road.  Jerry offered to carry me (obviously not your average photographer) but I wanted to salvage at least part of my dignity so I talked Erik and Jerry into helping me gimp out, with me using my good leg.  Erik drove me to the hospital where they took XRays, put a splint put on my ankle and gave me a pair of crutches.

If you are every up around Bodega I highly recommend you stop by Jerry's gallery.  He is an incredible photographer and a real nice guy.  Plus the bouldering up there really is quite good.

What they are saying right now is that it is an emulsion fracture.  So basically my ankle twisted to the point where the tendon (outside of ankle) pulled off and took a small piece of the bone with it.  Will most likely need to see an Orthopedist to have everything confirmed.  It makes sense since that tendon/muscle for about 6 to 8 inches up my ankle is fairly sensitive.

I can confirm that we did not carry him up the hill. He does hop pretty good.

The bouldering is really nice, a little sharp, but nice. Jerry kept saying "the higher up, the worse the rock is, so keep low".

Damn, Mr Mud, sorry you got hurt. Maybe by Pinns season you'll be re-habbed enough that the rest of us can keep up with you?

BTW, next time you see him ask Jerry about people he's already carried out to the road. It wouldn't have been new to him.

Hey Brad,

Jerry did give us sage advice: "Don't try to burn you TP in the woods".

He did tell us how he carried someone else out.   I thought about it a bit, gave it consideration, then decided that I could crawl out in order to salvage some bit of my dignity.  Then we compromised on the group hug approach to get me to the rocks which were easy enough to crawl through.  I finished up hopping to the road.

"OUCH! I hope he didn't tell the whole story since criminal charges are pending."

Nope, no details just....don't try to burn your TB in the woods.

The bouldering was good and the landing were for the most part soft. It's a great place to go when it's hot in the bay area, sonora and even chipmunk flat.

He enjoyed having visitors.

Munge, you should check it out. You can get cell reception in Bodega and even Salt Point.

Pepperoni sticks and cheese whiz.  Worked last time... ;D  If I recall correctly, you rode the Death Ride two or three months after a backwoods ankle break. Something about animal face and aerosol cheese together that has accelerated healing power.

Hey Mr Mud,  sorry to hear about the ankle, if it gets well enough I can show you some new  bike trails around Bear, _or some solid granite bouldering.  Take care, Jeff  (enjoy the codeine and ice cream)
