Where to get the new Pinnacles guidebook?
« on: November 19, 2007, 02:16:19 PM »
Brad is off on a week long hiking trip. I saw this question in another thread.  The book is carried at following locations:

1) PG Belmont (650-591-3030) and PG Sunnyvale (408-991-9090)
2) Pinnacles Bear Gulch (East Side) Visitor Center (831-389-4485). The ranger on the phone told me that they do not have the books out because they are still trying to sell off the old guidebooks. So you'll have to ask for it.  The book has not made to the West Side yet, but that ranger's station is not staffed this week until Saturday anyway.

Please feel free to expand the list. Once Brad gets back, he can probably provide a more complete list.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

I'm out still (the girls and I just added 28 miles to our PCT milage in 3 days!).

I'll send single copies too, to anyone who wants. I had a minimum of three, but people were sending money for one anyway. And a certain splendid example of womanhood has taken over the shipping department. Send $35.00 to the address listed in the other post (PO Box 416 Twain Harte CA 95383).That'll cover payment and postage and tax.

And Sunrise in Livermore has them and so does or will Sanctuary Gym in Monterey (or near there?). They're getting out there slowly.

I was at the climbing shop in Las Vegas and overheard some people asking if the had the new "Pinnacles" guidebook.

After I apologized for spitting my coffee all over them, I said "Pinnacles National Monument ... in California?"  The said they were from Sacramento and yes.  I tried to direct them to a few places, but I wasn't sure what would be in that area.

I wonder if Marmot Works in Berkely has them yet? They had a bunch of the purple ones.

Karl what were you doing in Vegas? Any good climbs? I'm heading there in March with Squiddo.

Marmot has contacted me twice about the book (they initiated contact). They keep saying they'll get around to ordering it, but they haven't yet. Maybe one of you (or both) could call them and inquire, thus putting a fire under their ass. Karl, if you know the name of the Las Vegas shop, I could pass it on to Marty Lewis. He's Maximus Press (the East Side Sierra guides). He's distributing to more out of the way shops.

BTW, Vic is mailing your books to the correct address today. Sorry for the confusion.

F4,

You asked about climbs.  It was cold and I am trying to get back into shape, so we climbed at the gallery four days in a row.  I had fun, because before that I had only been there like four times.  If you are going there, you should email me and we can talk about what kind of routes your looking to do.

Snicker, snicker. Sorry Karl, but the gallery is so 90s and I've given up my Lycra.

I actually bought the new Roxanne guide last year. The ST is okay, but everyone and thier mother uses it.

This year we're looking to do Black Orpheous (sp?)or that long chimney climb in BV (Epi... whatever) and maybe some others. I've heard there's a new climb on Eagle Wall It just depends on the weather.

Up above, a posting says: "confirms that brad gets around." Ahem, guys.

Looks like I may strike a deal with REI's distributor too, but we'll see.

one thing with REI is you have keep them stocked up for all their stores and rei.com. It would not surprise me if you had to do a second printing fairly quickly.

F4,

We just picked up the new guidebook to Red Rocks (only like 2 months old).  I was happy to replace our really old guide.  I never checked out the one you have.

Karl,

Funny you mention that. I finally broke down and bought a Red Rocks guidebook and then later hear folks don't like it (WTF!). So maybe yours is better.

Munge said: "It would not surprise me if you had to do a second printing fairly quickly."

Boy, aren't you an optimist! I lightly studied the # to print and got some advice from other book publishers too. I printed just over 4500 copies, and while it's been selling well, I've still got a huge number in the garage.  In my mind I've never thought there would be any second printing at all. Much less fairly quickly.

ALSO: next weekend and through about the end of April SD and I are beginnning to assemble the SPH 2nd edition. This is a crucial time period because what we do by way of formatting and setup will set the pattern for the whole book. Starting with the Burst Rock area (it's first in the High County section and I don't have the Low County raw materials ready for assembly yet). Physically the book will be the same size and materials as the Pinnsguide, but with a differrnet color cover. Also, we're not going with route numbers, but will use letters for the routes on each topo (as with, for example,  the Yosemite Valley guide). I would value input on formating from anyone who posts on this site. Contact me, stop by. Plan on spending an hour our two looking it over and giving your thoughts. For those of you in the Bay Area, let me know if you won't make it up and we can arrange for a review somehow. Too many cooks spoil the broth, etc, but I've found that consencus is often remarkably  easy on a lot of these set up issues.
