New to the Area looking for people to climb with
« on: January 29, 2008, 11:52:21 PM »
Hey guys,

Im new to the Central coast (lompoc) and am looking to find some people to climb(boulder, top rope... whatever) with.  I started getting into climbing my last year of college which wasnt that long ago.  Im still pretty much a beginner but want to get back into climbing but really dont know where to go or have anyone to go with.  Was just hoping maybe i can find some people who could tell me some cool place to go with.

Any info helps!
thanks

I'm not a guy, but I hope it's okay if I reply.  ;)

Welcome to the Bay Area. I had to look it up, but I found Lompoc close to SLO. I've been to SLO for climbing when I was a beginner. The area I went to had a bunch of beginner friendly routes. Pinnacles is not very far for you either. I sometimes post our plan here if we are going to Pinnacles for social climbing. Please feel free to PM me if you are interested in joining. Also, Yosemite is not that far out of the way too, but it makes more sense for a weekend (vs day) trip.

Ask around and see if you can find a rock climbing gym in your area. I think there is one in SLO. If not, at least Cal Poly has a climbers' club. That's probably the best way for you to find information about climbing near SLO and meet other local climbers.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

I wish I knew. That was a long time ago and I was a total beginner. I had no recollection at all regarding details. The guy who took us there used to go to Cal Poly and said that it's an area the students there like to go to.

"I sometimes post our plan here if we are going to Pinnacles for social climbing." By "here", I mean this forum.

> and this is probably gonna make me look stupid but what the heck is PM?

Well, it only means that you have been smart enough not to waste your time on various online forums (like this one). PM is short for "Personal Message." To PM someone on the forum, you click on his/her user name and then click on the link "Send this member a personal message"

BTW, when I first started climbing, it were the people I met in the gym who took me out climbing. I'm a true believer of the value of a local gym.

Good Luck!
Inch by inch, I will get there.
