Another nice weekend. Where will you be?
« on: March 05, 2008, 09:44:12 AM »
Looks like I'll be belaying at the Monolith again this Saturday.  Can someone please get out there with a chisel and chop some steps into that route?

I might get some climbing in on Sunday ... on my bicycle.  :D
Inch by inch, I will get there.

I need to climb something on my bike... Any ideas? My legs will probably be jello after riding at the velodrome on Saturday morning.  :)

Maybe I should hit Bohlman/On Orbit?

F'ueco, I had to look up both "velodrome" and "Bohlman/On Orbit" to understand what you were talking about.  Now I wonder if I should hit the velodrome someday to get over my fear of speed (it looks like a safe environment to go fast). Is it true the bikes for it do not have brakes and you must be able to track stand?  Mud is not interested though. Bohlman-On Orbit sounds like a good climb.

F4 and Squiddo, will you be at the Pins? It's going to be nice weather there.  ;)

You don't really need to know how to track stand. And yes, it is a good safe place to go fast...

The bikes are "fixed gear", so you can't coast. This eliminates the need for brakes... To slow down, you just stop putting effort into the pedaling. The good part is that no one else can slam on their brakes either.

Fueco,
I think we will be riding one day this weekend.  The ride will most likely pack in as many hills as possible.

Thankfully one day will be spent at the Pins,  this means I still have a reason to live.

Mr Mud said: "Thankfully one day will be spent at the Pins,  this means I still have a reason to live."

The implications of this statement are mindboggling. Does it mean that if he sends his project he won't any longer have a reason to live? If so, I change my "good luck/good vibes" to "fail please, yet again." Does it mean that, contrary to all appearances, mudworm is alone not a good enough reason to live? If so, Mr Mud is even dumber than he looks (is it possible?) All the world waits for an answer.

Me? I sent my current Pinns project yesterday (thanks Joe). Now I'm stuck spending this weekend in the Valley, unable to break off holds at will.

Brad, good job on sending your project! Now, go ahead and send your friend all the vibes and mojo you can summon up.  Rumor has it after the completion of all the 11's in the Pinns (some day), Mud's next goal is to do all the climbs that require a 3+ hour bushwhacking approach. He'll never run out of reasons to live as long as those pinnacles stand.  So, don't worry about HIM!  Now, anyone out there looking for a climbing partner? I can hook you up.

And thanks for the concern. It's okay. I'm not jealous of Pinnacles. Mud has been in love with "her" waaaaay longer than with me, or anyone else for that matter. Me? I'm happy as long as I'm not anyone's reason NOT to live.  ;D

Uh, hope you're not calling Jen vinegar. Salad may have something to say 'bout that.   ;)

I did a lovely 55 mile ride today with about 5000 feet of climbing. Absolutely beatiful day for riding! I warmed up by riding over to Saratoga, and then proceeded to suffer my way up Bohlman Road. I opted out of the side-trip of On Orbit Road (I basically wussed out... Really, who wants to add a mile of 18%+ grades to an already steep climb?). From the top, I took to dirt road over to the top of Montevina Road and took that down to Lexington Resevoir. Then after a brief rest, I ascended Black Road to Skyline. And then flew down Highway 9 back into town.

Bohlman is probably the steepest hill that I have climbed in the bay area. There are a few 20% sections going around switchbacks. Pure madness... Black Road isn't much easier, but after Bohlman it seems pretty casual.

These stats don't do either climb justice...
Black Road:  4.6 miles, 1820 feet
Bohlman Road: 4.3 miles, 2030 feet

It ain't the Pinns, but it sure was a lot of climbing! Nice! Hopefully tomorrow we'll manage to ride as much, but we'll probably first sleep in though.
