Cool
« on: November 14, 2008, 05:18:50 PM »
I've gotten enough requests that I "sign" copies of the book that I came up with my own idea. I've set aside a copy of my own in which I am seeking the signatures of all the Pinnacles first ascentionists I can find. I've got a ton of signatures now, nearly 40. You'd recognize almost all the names. (Of those who post here I think I'm missing only Robert - and Jeff G. Anyone else I'm missing?)

So my good friends Steve and Laura were buying a second home up here. It's 1.6 miles from our house. Their realtor is part of an office in Twain Harte. Steve was talking to another realtor in the same office one day, just by happenstance. Steve mentioned me, his friend who lives right nearby. They got to talking and Steve mentioned how we'd worked together on the Pinns guide. The guy's eyes lit up: "Pinnacles, I did a first ascent at Pinnacles!" Turns out he was on the FA of The Wedge. In 1956, four years before I was even born. I called him today and I'm going to drop by his office on Monday to get his signature. His office is 2 1/2 miles from my house. Small world. Cool.

Kind of makes our 10-25 years of climbing look rather recent, doesn't it?  :)

How much is a shack around Twain Harte cost these days?
I'm not worthy.

Not much, at least compared to Gray Area housing. An acre with a multi-bedroom house at 4400 feet, $300K to $450K.
