Brad, how many official routes there are in Pinnacles?
« on: December 18, 2008, 11:11:36 AM »
And how many are 5.11s (5.11a-d)?

I figured if anyone knows, it'll be you. But others are welcome to take a guess.
Inch by inch, I will get there.

As edited (see Mudworm's post below):

There are 893 in the book, 880 in the main text and 13 in Appendix A, "Routes  Too Late" (actually there are 14 in Appendix A, but of these, one  was reported very differently - and went in - as two routes, but it is only one).

Since the book I've become aware of another 8, both in "found" routes and those newly established. Therefore I know of 901 routes exactly at this point.

Of the 8 that aren't in the book, two are 5.11 (although Jim McC says Flue Fire is hard 5.10, he's flat wrong). I didn't count the number of 5.11s that are actually in the book because that means I'd have to get up out of my chair and walk across the room, and since on Monday I'll be 48 years old, that's just too much to ask of me.

Hey Brad, thanks! I hope typing all those words was not too strenuous for your 47-going-on-48 body. I thought it would be as simple as two numbers, but obviously it's a lot more complicated than that.

Now, is 793=880+13?  ??? (No editing the original post. That would be cheating.) Okay, after some addition and subtraction, I got it. You meant to say "there are 893 in the book..."

OK, I suppose I am human. But now that you've pointed out my error I will go back and edit to avoid causing confusion for people who aren't quite as brainy as you are. And I could have given you two numbers, but isn't an explanation more interesting?

Oh, cheater. You edited it! Hey about the explanations, I was not complaining. Just did not want to tire you out.   ;)

BTW, I have configured my account so newer posts are displayed above the older ones. That would make your "see Mudworm's post below" not make sense. Does it make sense? But of course, everyone would know what you meant. I'm just in the mood of pulling your strings.  ;D

Inch by inch, I will get there.

Pull all the strings you want, but you'll never bother me. I like you way too much to let mere words annoy. Still, having said that I should let you know too that next time I see you at the crag you'll be serving belay duty big time.

Last I counted there were around 70 5.11's.  That is not an exact number but it is close.

Actually I think the current total number is 79.  I might be off by one or two.

So then, get the book out. Have Mudworm count the 5.11s for you. Have her add two to that number. Then you'll have a total, you won't have to guess. I'm still in my chair; not getting up to do your homework.

Not my homework. Not my request.

I added Two to the number.

Even though one of the additional routes is supposedly 5.11.

So has Mr Mud missed an 11? That's the true question.

Remember Brad, he only has 10 fingers and toes. I guess he could count MudWorms as well.
I'm not worthy.

You know, we can give Mr Mud all the hell we want, but the joke's really on us. None of us can climb as hard as he can.

Just depends on the route and the day.
