Adventures in the Pillbox
« on: January 05, 2009, 08:03:40 PM »
After doing Nailbox crack a few times I was always left wanting more. Rappin down 6o feet from the sling belay each time was depressing, I mean Coffin nail looks fine just the way it is, dark and ominous and unclimbed.  Pillbox crack........well a grovel seems too liberal a term, let's say adventure canal, was always put off until the next time.

Finally did it, thought it was great.  The starting squeez off the belay was a leg-eater followed by some airy stemming.  Then the trip through the amazon........ A Mini Eco wonder right in the Pinns!  Wierd moss, ooz, growths, plants I have not seen anywhere on the trails etc.  Finished up the WIDE section and was finally spit out on top.  Huh, no bolts, bet there is a great station on top of Coffin nail.  Sweet, found it 15 feet climbers right of the top out.  White sling 1", looked like it had been used once and then forgotten.  Broke with minimal exertion, wierd to see how nylon degrades over time.  Replaced the sling with 2 new ones (9/16 and a 6mil cord) so no more excuses about the long walk down to get in the way of doing coffin nail!

So, nails n pills was killer and the garden is worth the grunts!

Good man. Next stop on the "growth and plants" Pinnacles climbing tour will have to be February Fools? Even I got PO on that one.  And how did the hip do?

He shook the bug by giving it to me.  Which is why I stayed home yesterday and have been walking around with a hanky today.

Hey Joe, sounds like Sunday was a good one. I would have seen you back there....if not for MY flu. Sucks....finally upright though.
